@empirechick Thanks for the kind words. I tend to post only when I feel a real compulsion too. Besides, I have my own page to maintain, plus there are a couple of message boards that I comment on so I only chirp up when I believe chirping is appropriate.

@bucdaddy I have a feeling we have pretty similar attitudes when it comes to weather forecasting around these parts, and this wasn't the first time I railed at the failures of the local fearmongers who have gotten it wrong. One of my more recent diatribes

I wasn't trying to plagiarize, just venting as per usual, though I will give a nod to the late Richard Jeni for the window reference, which was in his Platypus Man standup routine on HBO, possibly one of the funniest hours of TV I have ever seen.

bucdaddy, I'm practically president of your fan club! But it doesn't hurt to encourage the whippersnappers when they have a good post, right?

Now hold on, empirechick, he said basically what I said, but almost 10 hours later. He said it a bunch better, but still ... credit where it's due.

Joe DiNardo, hee. Joe used to live next door to my (only) friend Frank in high school. Never met Joe but I've seen his house.

In anticipation of moving up here, we purchased two Nissan SUV's, years apart, both with 4 wheel drive. (Don't give me grief, one is a 97 and has over 160K miles on it.) Moved up here, and I was really amazed at how many of you people drive regular "Texas" cars in this crap all winter. I don't know how you do it - seriously, how do you even manage to get out of these driveways without all wheel or 4WD? Granted, I decided we weren't going to drive "regular" cars up here 12 years ago when on my 2nd visit to Pgh, we slammed into an 8 point buck outside of Ligonier, and would have been dead if we hadn't been in a Blazer - but still, if I didn't have the 4WD now - I'd never leave the house during the winter. Or rutting season.
